According to TOT's 2021 lawsuit, Spanish engineer Lopez-Medrano founded TOT to license his invention for managing “how to use electricity to cope with the reduction and increase in the ratio of radio signals to interference.” TOT's lawsuit alleges that Apple's mobile devices contain transceivers that use its patented technology without permission.

In this case, the plaintiff Empire alleges that Samsung's specific models of Galaxy series smartphones, which allegedly support Qualcomm's Smart Transmit technology and/or 5G compatibility, infringe on two of Empire's wireless communication patents, namely “Method and Communication System with Adaptive Mode Selection” and “Insertion and Decoding of Duplicate Data Symbols in Wireless Communication.”

The ruling involving Samsung and ZTE marks the first time that the UK High Court has granted interim injunctive relief at the first instance stage. On June 11, 2025, Disney and Universal Pictures filed a lawsuit in federal court in California, accusing AI image generation company Midjourney of using their intellectual property to train AI models and generate infringing images featuring iconic characters from their franchises.

On June 6, 2025, the Unified Patent Court (UPC)’s Mannheim Local Division dismissed Dish’s infringement complaint (Case No. UPC_CFI_471/2023). The court found that even under the doctrine of equivalents, Aylo’s actions did not constitute patent infringement.

Recently, the Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office (EPO) issued its first decision regarding the use of artificial intelligence to assist in claim interpretation, making it clear that ChatGPT cannot replace a skilled person in interpreting patent claims (Case No. T 1193/23).

On June 5, 2025, Samsung Display filed a lawsuit against TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology (TCL CSOT) and its affiliates in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, alleging infringement of three key patents related to OLED technology.

On June 3, 2025, OpenAI filed a legal memorandum titled “Memorandum of Law in Support of OpenAI Defendants’ Objection to Preservation Order at MDL ECF 33 Pursuant to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 72(a)” with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. In the filing, OpenAI requested that Judge Sidney H. Stein overturn a prior preservation order issued by Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang.
