Recently, Huawei filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Transsion in the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in Europe. The case involves standard essential patents related to High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). (Case Number: ACT_28975/2025)

The patent in question is EP2725797 (Mobile Unlocking Device, Mobile Encryption Device, Image Filtering Device, and Data Structure). The case was officially accepted by the court on June 20, 2025, and will be heard at the Munich Regional Division of the UPC.

Huawei is the fourth Access Advance patent pool licensee to initiate HEVC patent enforcement against Transsion. Previously, Transsion was sued by NEC, JVC, and Sun Patent Trust over HEVC patents at the UPC and in Brazil.

Transsion reached a settlement with Philips on July 16, 2023, regarding AAC/USAC standard-essential patents, and signed its first patent pool licensing agreement with Via LA. This marks Transsion's third known patent licensing agreement, following those with Qualcomm and Nokia.
