The Delhi High Court is hearing a public interest litigation seeking a ban on access to DeepSeek, an AI chatbot developed by China. The court emphasized that artificial intelligence is a “dangerous tool” in the hands of either the Chinese or the Americans. The case involves data privacy concerns and vulnerabilities found in DeepSeek that have led to the leakage of large amounts of sensitive data. The court has set the case for further hearing on February 20 to allow time for government counsel to gather relevant instructions.

During the hearing, the court noted that the risks of AI are pervasive, independent of its source. Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said the government was clearly aware of the issue, emphasizing the importance of protecting sensitive data. The government's legal adviser said the matter needed to be examined carefully and asked for time to get directions. The court then adjourned the case to February 20th.
