This case marks the first known infringement lawsuit involving U.S. patents to be heard by a German regional court following the BSH Hausgeräte v. Electrolux ruling.

Currently, the primary patent pools managing HEVC standard essential patents are Access Advance and Via LA. Microsoft is both a licensor and licensee of the Access Advance HEVC patent pool, as well as a licensee of the Via LA HEVC patent pool. Amazon, however, is currently only a licensee of the Access Advance HEVC patent pool.

Optis is asserting five standard-essential patents covering 2G, 3G, 4G (LTE), and 5G technologies. The case is being heard by Justice Tejas Karia.

In response to Nokia's global litigation, Acer, Hisense, and Asus subsequently initiated legal actions, suing Nokia in the High Court of England and Wales. Acer and Hisense filed their lawsuits in June, while Asus formally joined the legal battle on July 17.

This injunction was issued “without notice to the defendant.” InterDigital has the right to apply to the court within 7 days of receiving this order, upon 48 hours' prior notice to Amazon's counsel, to modify or vacate the order.
