On August 7, 2025, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) of South Korea filed a lawsuit against Hisense Group and its Dutch distributor in the Düsseldorf Local Court (LD) of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) over patent EP3258692 (“Method for Deriving Predicted Motion Vectors and Related Devices”).

Previously, on July 14, 2025, ETRI filed a lawsuit with the Düsseldorf Chamber of the UPC against Transsion and its affiliated companies for patent infringement regarding the same patent. According to the patent list published by the HEVC Advance patent pool, the involved patent has corresponding patent deployments in multiple countries, including China, France, and Belgium.

It is worth noting that Hisense is currently also facing a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nokia regarding HEVC patents (unrelated to the HEVC Advance patent pool), and Hisense has already accepted a DivX license due to market pressure in Brazil.
